PSTN Switch Off

PSTN Switch Off

The Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) will be phased out by 31 January 2027. This means that all phone lines in the UK will transition to a digital network based on Internet Protocol (IP) and fibre-based services. Additionally, the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) will also cease to operate.

The shift is driven by changing communication habits, as use of mobile and internet-based services becomes more prevalent.

The transition will affect not only voice services but also require potential upgrades to business broadband systmes.

Equipment that relies on PSTN, such as alarms, EPOS machines, door entry systems, CCTV, and faxes, will no longer function and will need to be updated or replaced to maintain functionality.
